Caritas-Spes Ukraine

Over the past several years, Ukraine began the process of reforming its penitentiary system. There is a great need at this time to provide appropriate prison conditions for those incarcerated and successful re-integration programs for those that have served sentences.

Caritas-Spes cooperates with state authorities and assists juvenile detainees, adult prisoners and families whose head of households are incarcerated by providing social, psychological, and legal support.

Caritas-Spes participated in exchange programs with criminal rehabilitaion professionals from other countries, sharing knowledge, experinces, and methodologies in order to provide better social and psychological assistance in the penitentiaries. 

Ukraine is a country with 2.6 million students and 860 colleges and universities.

Caritas-Spes helps talented young people to get a decent education at home and abroad, especially gifted students from poor families who cannot afford university tution. Caritas-Spes assists with living expences and provides student housing in Kyiv, Lviv, and Kamianets-Podilski. Students live together and share daily household duties and many help as volunteers with Caritas-Spes activities.

Caritas-Spes continually searches for additional housing for students in various cities throughout Ukraine.

Moreover, Caritas-Spes pays scholarships to some talented students from poor families.
